Well worth reading If you’re interested in amateur radio, but live in an apartment or a home with an HOA, you will like this book. The author gives practical antenna solutions that don’t require your own personal tower.I also appreciated the author’s sense of humor, especially when describing multi-band plain wire antennas. He gave the formula for calculating the ideal length as:Antenna Length = W × R / FTWhere:W = The amount of wire you have availableR = The amount of room availableFT = Family Tolerance factorIt’s corny, but I literally laughed out loud!
This is a nicely written idea book. It is not a text, it is the compilation of mostly one person's experience in designing small antennas, while living in apartments, condo's and homes with very small lots. It is not a very large book, and it is pricey, thus four, instead of five, stars. It is about the same price as ARRL books that are several times the size. I do believe the author has done a good job of writing about his experience, and I find that I got some valuable ideas.
Very well written and easy to understand. As a Ham in Florida, in a gated restricted community, stealth is critical. This book explained everything I needed to construct and maintain a great antenna system in a small space with stealthy characteristics. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to build or purchase the right antenna for their situation.
Nice collection of mostly well known physically or electrically small antenna configurations for limited space, or for folks subject to frequently unreasonable restrictions of home owner associations (HOAs) or rental property owners. Some practical construction and installation hints from the author. Marred by some poor editing, and occasionally questionable technical statements. On balance, useful but sometimes not technically concrete information.
I have read several books on stealth and small HF antennas but I found this to be the best so far. It covers lots of ideas for indoor, attic and out doors. Along the way the author covers some fundamental antenna principles to help gauge the inevitable tradeoffs involved in these compromise ideas. There is also some discussion of larger antennas, but with emphasis how to squeeze them into remarkably small footprints. At the end there are bonus chapters by other authors about radials, dual-band antennas and more. Recommended.
This book provides a good overview of antenna solutions for restricted areas. It presents some interesting and unusual solutions, such as a wire DDR antenna mounted on a fence.
A good recipe book that touches on all the bases for small space Ham Radio installations. My only complaint is that I really would have liked MORE ideas and recipes, but there are over a dozen types detailed here.
Very valuable. I have been using various wire antennas exclusively for the 21 years I have been a ham and found a lot of new ideas in this book.
