The thing I loved the most about this book and the series in general, is that it's not the romantic happily-ever-after feel-good kind of story. Yes, liberties were take with the story lines, but it is a parallel work of fiction set in 1700's Scotland. That said, Whence Came a Prince is a beautiful fictional account of a timeless Biblical story.
This is the third book of the series, Lowlands of Scotland. This is a remarkable series. Emits a lot of emotion: anger, frustration, tears, highs, lows. In other words, cannot pull away from this series and put the book down. Excited to start the last book.
I ordered this book after reading book two in this series. I loved how the author shadowed the biblical story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel. It intrigued me to see where she would take the characters next to reflect that story. I even read it in the middle of the night when I was unable to sleep.
God has given Liz Curtis Higgs a VERY SPECIAL GIFT to write books. She is a natural. Not only did I get lost in her historical fiction for hours but MY HUSBAND laughed and cried with me as well, knowing how much the stories meant to me as I read them.'Thorn in My Heart', 'Fair is the Rose', and 'Whence Came a Prince' are Biblically based and they are real. The reader experiences BEAUTIFUL, RAW, GOD GIVEN EMOTIONS while reading them. You cry, you hurt, you love, you inflate, you deflate, you heal, and you love some more.Whatever you do, if you are a woman who is forever searching for worthy Christian fiction, PLEASE DO NOT PASS THIS SERIES (or any of Liz Curtis Higgs books) BY. Buy the books and let them bless you!
I have just finished this book and loved it. I enjoyed the first two books in this series but this third one was by far the best. How Liz Curtis Higgs manages to tell a tale from biblical times in 18th Century Lowland Scotland is extremely clever. This book actually had me picking up my Bible to check the original story. Being a Scot born and bred, now living in the US, I enjoyed the Scottish language and descriptions of the countryside, reminding me very much of home.This is the first time I remember reading a book which actually made me cry. I can't give this book enough praise it was so well written, I am only sorry that it is the last of this series, I look forward to reading more of Miss Higgs books.
I loved the book and was very happy to finally see the resolution of love of the two sisters for the same man. It ended well though it had very emotional scenes toward the end. The book will bring tears to your eyes. I have felt lump in my throat and felt the pain. The story of the sisters did not end the same way that in the bible, so I will encourage everybody to read it who is skeptical of already knowing the ending by connecting the plots with the bible. Liz does not end to surprise me with twists and turns.A great novel!
Loved this 4-book series by author Liz Higgs. She's an amazing author that brings Scotland and her people of yesterday to life. Loved it.
This Book is brilliant. As the conclusion of the triangle romance it delivers a solid performance; I could feel the character's emotions; love, anger, shock, grief, betrayal and passion. This series is one of my absolute favorites and I've read it through twice. I assure you my daughters will read it as well. I love Liz's gift and I am so grateful she shares it with the rest of us.
